Idle-Wait Opportunity Model
Mine short stops absorbed into normal operation
Reference implementation. Industrial use requires validation on plant-specific data. Metrics are from open evaluation splits, not customer plants.
Intended use
Surfacing frequent short stops that never reach the downtime threshold, ranked by cumulative material value lost in transformation.
Inputs & outputs
Inputs
PLC state changes, event logs, line-speed signals
Output
Micro-stop clusters ranked by total material value lost in transformation
Training data & evaluation
Training-data classification
Synthetic state-change streams with labelled micro-stop events.
Evaluation approach
Event recall and cluster purity on a held-out synthetic split.
Recall 0.84· open split
Industrial relevance
Applies across FMCG / CPG, Paper · Glass · Cement. The value is highest where the affected asset is a constraint and additional output can be monetized.
Limitations
- Sub-second events need adequate PLC polling resolution.
- Cause labels are indicative; confirm against operator context.
